Black Eyes

Another dazzling day in Santa Cruz. We went on a half-day bike ride at Wilder Ranch State Park yesterday and it was breathtaking. I can't help but envy all who live here and appreciate it. This evening I went and saw a band called Les Yeux Noirs. I read a couple of articles about them in the local papers and it sounded like my type of music: gypsy meets Eastern European folk. It was great until the end when the two fiddling brothers did a kind of gypsy version of Charlie Daniel's dueling fiddles. I was so disappointed that they felt the need to throw such gimmicky stuff into their show, but I know why they did it..... the crowd loved it. Suckers. I could not stand to listen to another screeching note and left. Good stuff though.....especially if you like Yiddish, Russian and French folk songs.
